Understanding Tooth Extraction
We always try to save a tooth first. When that isn't possible, because of severe decay, infection, a fracture, crowding or a problem wisdom tooth, we remove it as gently as we can and guide you through healing.
Removing a tooth is sometimes the healthiest choice, for example when it is badly broken, infected beyond repair or crowding other teeth. We explain why it is needed and what your options are afterwards.
Is it right for you?
- A tooth broken beyond repair
- Severe infection or advanced gum disease
- A painful or impacted wisdom tooth
- Crowding before orthodontic treatment

Tooth Extraction at Our Clinic
Here is what each option involves, so you can come to your consultation knowing what to ask.
Simple Extractions
For a tooth that is fully visible in the mouth, we numb the area thoroughly, gently loosen the tooth and remove it. You will feel pressure but should not feel pain. Most simple extractions take only a few minutes, and we place gauze to control bleeding before you leave.

Wisdom Teeth
Wisdom teeth often do not have enough room to come through properly. When they are stuck under the gum or growing at an angle, they can cause pain, swelling, infection and decay in the neighbouring tooth. We take an X-ray to see the position of the tooth and its roots, then plan a careful removal under local anaesthesia.

Aftercare & Replacement
A blood clot forms in the socket and protects it while it heals, so the first 24 hours matter most. You leave with clear aftercare instructions. If the missing tooth needs replacing, we talk you through implants, bridges and dentures, and how long to wait before each.

Questions About Tooth Extraction
Will an extraction hurt?
The area is fully numbed, so you should feel pressure but not pain. Soreness afterwards is usually mild.
What is dry socket?
It happens when the blood clot is lost from the socket, causing pain a few days later. Following aftercare advice lowers the risk.
Should I replace an extracted tooth?
Often yes, to keep your bite stable. We explain implants, bridges and dentures.
